As long as I can remember, I’ve been fascinated by how the body works and moves and the pleasurable, relaxing, healing effects of touch.
I mostly use Craniosacral therapy in my work, but also use other therapies learned over the years, particularly Shiatsu.

My main qualifications are as a Chartered Physiotherapist in 1983, as a Shiatsu practitioner in 1990 and as a Craniosacral Therapist in 1991.
I continue to add to and update my skills every year.

I was a member of Council in the Craniosacral Therapy Association (CSTA) of the UK 1993-1995 and have been on the teaching staff of the European Shiatsu School, the College of Craniosacral Therapy in London and the Karuna Institute in Devon

Bruce Aitken giving Craniosacral TherapyMy experience is broad based, having worked in mental health, in hospices and with people following strokes and head injuries, as well as those with musculoskeletal problems.
In recent years, I have developed a particular interest in two areas:-

One is working with people who have complex or longstanding physical symptoms; sometimes they will have tried other treatments unsuccessfully. They may be feeling low in mood or lacking energy.
This can often happen if there was trauma associated with the onset, or when the causes of the symptoms are not clear.
Recurrent backaches, headaches, widespread muscle pains or vague abdominal symptoms are typical examples.

My other special interest is mothers and babies.
Craniosacral therapy is often very helpful, particularly when there was a difficult birth, but also if the baby is showing unusual symptoms, even when labour was relatively easy. These symptoms might include colic; problems with sleeping or feeding; inconsolable crying, or simply the impression that all is "not right".
Mothers can frequently benefit from help to rebalance after childborth. To recover from strains to the pelvis or to ease residual backache, for example.
